Accurate virtual models

We offer advanced visualization services for a variety of professional applications (e.g., developers and land contractors, architects, civil engineers, interior designers, companies involved in the commerce of household items, etc.) as well as individual consumers. For to-be-built environments, we use architectural plans (either printed or in formats supported by popular CAD software) to create precise and photorealistic models. For existing environments, we rely on digital photography to create exact virtual replicas of the environments. With both scenarios, the models can be viewed and interacted with using various technologies available in our laboratory. These technologies range from basic computers and tablets to stereoscopic (3D) televisions and immersive Virtual Reality (VR) gear. With immersive VR, users can walk within the virtual spaces as if they were real and experience them in a 1:1 scale. In all cases, through custom-designed menus, users can interact with their environments and induce changes instantaneously (e.g., change the floor, the ceiling, wallpapers, colors, hide or move furniture/objects, etc.). The models we create allow users to draw informed decisions about the design of their space by letting them experience how it appears ahead of any construction and/or remodeling. 

Although users can engage with the virtual models in our laboratory, we are also available to set up customized VR systems of different types (and cost) in the showrooms of interested companies.

For Researchers

Experiments with VR

Experiments with VR

Members of our staff have extensive experience in the conduct of scientific research. Thus, we are able to offers services relating to the design and programming of studies of different types, ranging from computer-based psychophysics experiments (using popular software such as E-Prime, OpenSesame, Matlab, etc.) to studies with virtual environments and eye-tracking. We also design stereoscopic stimuli and virtual environments to be used for teaching and training and as interventions by clinicians (e.g., in the treatment of phobias). 

In addition to offering services to researchers, we are keen on participating as collaborators on research programs. We currently collaborate with a number of researchers from various institutions and fields on projects spanning from the conservation of energy in built environments to social skills training and teaching and instruction in STEM.
